Visiting Initiative Programs
is designed to provide training and support to Family, Friend and Neighbor childcare providers’ in the metro area. The Primary focus is to support FFN by strengthening language skills, affirming cultural structures that help them be successful, sustain ethnic and linguistic uniqueness, and increasing their understanding in a fluid multicultural society.
HVIP staffs assist unlicensed providers to become eligible for licensing if they desire. ECRTC Coordinators empower FFN providers and the families they serve to build on their own strengths and capacities by promoting the healthy development of children through home consultation services. These services are designed to provide an opportunity to discuss training topics; increase school readiness and literacy development, be familiar with behavior management, revisit nutrition, health, safety and CPR/First Aid classes, and create curriculum and also environmental development plans. Extra perks of HVIP training is record keeping, business side of child care, tax preparation, and licensing procedures. ECRTC is valuable in cultivating FFN and parent interactions to transmit resources, communication and partnerships.
Future Plans: It is ECRTC’s intention to pilot a home visiting child care model for cultural communities statewide.
