Child Development Certification Program
The Early Childhood Resource and Training Center's Stage I Child Development Certification Program collaborates with the Minneapolis Community and Technical College and the St. Paul College to train enrollees via the colleges' Child Development courses, which grants 12 credits and also supports opportunities for technical assistance and mentoring. Participants also increase cultural responsiveness through training from the Building Cultural Connections program.

The primary objective of the Impact Program is to enable childcare providers to establish and maintain safe, healthy learning environments in order to advance the physical and intellectual well being of the children in their care.

This year Impact Stage I had 46 students from a diversity of cultural backgrounds enrolled. For 2006-2007 Impact Stage I had two new cohorts which included a distance learning cohort for students through the community college’s Desire to Learn (D2L) website. ECRTC also sponsored a CDA cohort which partnered with the Minneapolis Public School’s Lehmann Center and Resources for Child Caring. The "Impact Model" is a credit based course supported by wrap around services including, computer training, mentoring and tutoring. This model will be offered in rural Minnesota during this coming year. Impact Stage I is building capacity and developing leadership skill, leveling the playing field and promoting systems change in the childcare field. European American teachers are encouraged to enroll through their college institution to be part of the Impact Stage I Program, to positively influence future and present families that work with educational goals. Classmates learn to collaborate through this learning experience exploring cross cultural communication and learning styles.
